Converting challenges into opportunities
The Head of ICFAI Education Lanka Mrs. R. Goonetilleke delivering the
welcome address at the convocation of ICFAI said that there is a basic
difference in thinking, setting goals, strategy formulation, and
achieving the targets of a successful person and a less successful
person. Being positive or negative.

She said that the students, have the potential to excel and she
firmly believes that the graduating students have the capacity to
convert the new challenges into opportunities. The coming years will be
more challenging due to global economic recession and increasing
pressure on systematic development.
A total of 200 MBA, BBA and BSc IT students received their
certificates at the convocation of ICFAI Education Lanka (IEL) the Sri
Lankan campus of the ICFAI University India held at BMICH recently. The
chief guest on the occasion was Dr. G.P. Srivastava, the Vice Chancellor
of the ICFAI University - Dehradun, Uttarakhannd in India. K.V. Iyer,
the Head of International Division of ICFAI Head Office India, Mangala
Munasinghe, the Chairman of the Governing Council of ICFAI Education
Lanka, other member of the Governing council and members of the Academic
council of IEL participated as special guests at the convocation.
Mrs. Goonetilleke's opinion is that the education imparted at the
university fulfills only a part in the life of the students career and
life. The students will have to develop the sense of responsibility to
care for their families, to contribute to the improvement of the
organizations and the development of the country.
ICFAI India is a 'non for profit' organization and are fully involved
in all facets of education offering degree and other professional
programs, publishing books, magazines in management and other
disciplines, case study material etc.
This University is committed to develop leaders capable of making
decisions in a complex global environment and who are dedicated to serve
their companies, society and humanity and it imparts education with a
vision 'MERITUM ETHICUS' implying Merit with Ethics and with a Mission
'Learning for Leadership'. IEL caters to a student population of about
500 offering undergraduate programs as well as postgraduate programs.
The undergraduate programs offered by the IEL are Bachelor of Business
Administration (BBA) and the BSC in Information Technology while at
postgraduate level the programs offered are the In-campus Master of
Business Administration (MBA) degree, the Distance Learning MBA program
as well as the Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) and the
Certified Treasury Manager (CTM) programs.
International head of Operations ICFAI K.V. Iyer said that they have
over 300,000 students in India. The ICFAI head office is at Hyderabad
while there are eight university campuses and 75 DLP centres in India.
All the centres operate under the Indian University Grants Commission
rules and regulations and offer undergraduate and postgraduate study
courses.
ICFAI has already established their branches in Dubai, Australia, UK
in addition to Sri Lanka. He said plans to establish campuses in
Switzerland, New Zealand, UAE and USA are on hold due to the global
economic slow down and said that they will go ahead as soon as things
settle down. She said that with the restructuring of operations IEL has
taken steps to increase the attention on their MBA programs. ICFAI
university degree programs offered by IEL is highly recognized MBA
program in Sri Lanka maintaining high quality academic standards.
