Father

On the border of fury
On the border of misery
On the threshold of freedom
I saw a father
Who tore a packet of biscuits
To feed his wretched child...
Hiding behind a fence...
To escape from death..
I saw
frightened eyes
Lit with a dimmed hope
Staring back at the lagoon...
In search of the other daughter
Who will never return
Who was gone with the waves...
Once again another glance
At the daughter who was eating...
In this world of dance and music
Am I just a poetess
Of emotions rushed in
With the shocking news appeared on TV screen...
In this world of dance and music
I’m just an eye on the verge of tears
Who is a daughter of a lamenting heart...
In front of your fatherly love...
Which makes you hurt
Through the skin...bones...and bone marrows...

Silence breaker

Despondent tune
Coming from my backyard
Acknowledging the rain
It cries just in vain
Infuriating desires
Gone to pieces in the dark
Separating the silence from the years
In vain it continues to bark
Unpleasant skin has felt
The sparkling of the golden bless
Despondent tune rejoices,
Unfortunately no dreams as
It continues its lyrical triplets

The boarder

The room is yours.
Yours to live, breathe and sleep
And of course dine too...
No TV, but radio
To comfort your soul
And keep company
For a boarder
Whose boarding house
Is ones own home.

Godard

Son of Giovanni and Brucina of Silversand Kennel
Both best Dobermans in shows of KASL
Pedigreed pup born at the dawn of new millennium
Destined to be my friend and companion
A carefree pup who rejoiced his freedom
Roamed once from ‘Ury’ to ‘Wewessa’ in Uva region
Tales are many which warrant narration
An excellent passenger in a chauffeur driven sedan
With time he matured like an excellent wine
Hunted wild hares and observed porcupine
Never treated any teaplucker with disdain
Godard my Dobe always used his brain
He escorted me to my vehicle every morn
At dusk he was awaiting my return
My liver coloured buddy who cherished yoghurt
Never grumbled, always obedient and alert
Every morning in misty, rainy or fine weather
Two of us climbed the path to Namunukula without chatter
On reaching the destined summit nearly after an hour
We always shared our happiness with each other
We witnessed together a partial solar eclipse on 22nd July
Alas! He has left this world when I returned on 23rd July
Thank you my friend for your company of almost a decade
Rest in peace under cassia nodosa till we meet again

The dove of peace

There’s a saying
That everything has a first time.
We see these days
So many things happening,
That we believed incredible!
Now I entertain a dream of mine
Which, if realized, would be another first...
During the course of yet another month,
Our learned brethren, the ‘diaspora’,
Would confess:
“We were in the wrong
When we expected liberation
Through the harshness of one.
But we are now convinced
That we received it
Through the kindness of another!
We are really free now;
Of course, we are truly liberated!
So dear Scandinavians,
We would like to propose
The name of the latter
To be the Dove of Peace
Of the Year!”
