President will meet CPC unionists - Fowzie

Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Development Minister A. H. M. Fowzie said President Mahinda Rajapaksa had agreed to meet Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) unionists after his return from Vietnam tomorrow.

"As responsible trade unions, they must stop their present work-to-rule campaign as it has inconvenienced the public", the minister said.

The minister said he was not ready to recognise trade unions which act irresponsibly. A spokesman for the CPC unions said the work-to-rule campaign launched last Thursday, demanding a Rs. 5,000 salary increment, would continue until the Management agrees to give effect to the scheme for increased salaries.

Meanwhile, the current trade union action has already affected the fuel supply.
