Lion flag, President's portrait atop Everest Range

Some ten members of the "Sri Lanka Dheera Balakaya" (an organisation
set up for achieving heroic deeds) had successfully climbed the
Kalpathar, the uppermost point of the famous Mount Everest range,
passing the primary camping base under the 2009 Everest climbing
strategy recently. At this climbing expedition, the 10 member Sri Lanka
climbing team had passed the 5,364 high Everest base camp and finally
reached the 5,545 high Kalpathar bank planting the Sri Lanka flag at
both these points while also displaying a portrait of Sri Lanka
President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
A picture depicting this unique event was recently presented to
President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the leader of the "Dheera Balakaya", G.A.
Sanjeewa Kumara, an old boy of Rahula College, Matara.Media Minister,
Lakshman Yapa Abeywardhana, Transport Minister, Dullas Alahapperuma and
President of the Rahula College O.B.A. (Colombo Branch) and Ex-Director
of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Dr. Sanjaya Sedara Senarath also
participated at the occasion. |
