Troops recover arms and ammunition

The Security Forces engaged in search and cleaning operations in the Vanni area on Friday found 289 anti-personnel mines, five rocket propelled grenades, two 120 mm mortar bombs, one claymore mine weighing about 12.5 kg., five claymore mines each weighing about 5 kg, 12 60mm mortar fuses, 5kg of C-4 explosives, eight RPG charges, one booby trap set to a gas cylinder, two hand grenades and 21 60mm mortar bombs.

They were found hidden in Narakamulla, Iranamadu, Mulliyaweli, Puthukudiyiruppu, Vellamulli-Vaikkal, Kariyalamulli-vaikkal, Kappukulam and Andankulam.

Meanwhile, troops of the 231 Brigade in Batticaloa, during search and clear operations in Kulaththamadu, recovered one claymore mine of 1.5 kg with two remote controllers, two 82 hand grenades, six anti-personnel mines with fuses; four 1-com radio sets, one detonator cord of 1.5m and two electric detonators the same evening.
