Thomians retain T. N. Fernando Trophy

S. Thomas’ with a superior display of rowing defeated Royal to retained the T. N. Fernando Trophy collecting 40 points to 12 in their annual ‘Regatta’ at the Beira Lake waters yesterday.

Royal College won only the Junior Fours, Junior Double Sculls and the Junior ‘B’ Fours as the other races were smooth rowing for the Thomians.

When the main event the Boat Race began, the Thomians were well ahead in the points tally 28\12 and the main event was only of an academic interest, but the Thomians won the ‘Boat Race’ too to stamp their class.

Results:

“A” Sculls: Sajeev de Silva (STC) beat Shehan Muthugala (RC) 3m 35 sec.

‘B’ Sculls: Danushka Jayanetti (STC) beat Chirath Karunanayake (RC) 3m 32 sec. ‘A’ Pairs: Eshan Goonewardena (B) and Ruven Weerasinghe (S) (STC) beat Radhika Weerasekera (B) and Ashen Herath (S) Royal 3m 25 sec.

‘B’ Pairs Shehan de Livera (B) and Sajeev de Silva (S) of (STC) beat Sahan Warnasuriya (B) and Thivanka Jayatileka (S) 3m 26 sec. ‘A’ Double Sculls: Ruven Weerasinghe (B) and Sajeev de Silva (S) (STC) beat Jehan Samarsekara (B) and Chirath Karunanayake (S) 3m 12 sec.

“B” Double Sculls: Shehan Muthugala (B) and Pradeep Maddumabandara (S) Royal beat Eshan Goonewardena (B) and Danushka Jayanetti (S) (STC) 3m 16 sec.

Junior ‘B’ Fours: Sanjiva Jayasuriya (B), Ajmal Sideek (2), Sahan Warnasuriya (3), Thivanka Jayatileka (S), Pasan Ranaweera (Cox) Royal beat Akshat Wickremanayake (B), Danston Harold (2), Chamal Jayanetti (3), Sajin de Livera (S) Kavan Elapatha (Cox) (STC) 3m 19 sec.

Junior Fours: Akila Keerthiratne (B), Sithija Gamage (2), Jehan Samarasekara (3), Pradeep Maddumabandara (S), Pasan Ranaweera (Cox) beat (STC) Yohan Wijeratne (B), Treshan Manatunga (2), Shehan de Livera (3), Uween Jayasinghe (S), Peter Christy (Cox).

Boat Race: Eshan Goonewardena (B), Sajeev de Silva (2), Danushka Jayanetti (3), Ruven Weerasinghe (S), Amrick Varia (Cox) of (STC) beat Devinda Fernando (B), Radika Weerasekera (2), Chirath Karunanayake(3), Ashen Herath (S), Danushka Perera (Cox).

The Thomian’s increased their Boat Race tally win to 22 to Royal’s 18. While they have won the T. N. Fernando Trophy for the 19th occasion to Royal’s 14 with three ending in ties.
