Kandy District schools' Soccer from Monday

FOOTBALL: Twelve schools in the under 15 category and nine schools in the under 19 category will participate in the annual Kandy District Schools Soccer Tournament organised by the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation which will be worked off at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy on Monday and Tuesday - October 26 and 27th.

The two finals will be worked off on Tuesday October 27th with the under 15 finals at 3 p.m. and the under 19 finals at 4 p.m. Former Deputy Minister of Defence and the Chairman of the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation General Anuruddha Ratwatte, will be the Chief Guest.

Also gracing the occasion will be vice presidents of the Foundation Maurice Perera, Deva Amunugama, M. Nadarajah and DIG Central Province West Pujith Jayasundera who himself was a fine soccerite for Dharmaraja College and Police Sports Club. The Co-ordinator of this programme M. Nadarajah said that in the under 19 knock out tournament the participating schools will be Trinity College, Kingswood College, Dharmaraja College, Mahanama College, Ranabima Royal College, Gateway College, Nugawela Central College, Asoka Vidyalaya and St. Sylvester's College.

The following teams will be in the fray in the under 15 knock out: Trinity College, St. Sylvester's College, Dharmaraja College, Mahanama College, Sri Sumangala College, Asoka Vidyalaya, Hewaheta Central College, Siddi Lebbe Muslim Vidyalaya, Nugegoda Central College, Sri Rahula College, Kingswood College and Rasindev Vidyalaya.This move by the Kandy District Sports Development Foundation is laudable as it will promote soccer among schools in the Kandy. A similar tournament for clubs is also necessary as a follow up of the schools tournament.
