UltraTech Cement celebrates national quality week
UltraTech Cement Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, the producers of UltraTech Cement,
the Engineer's choice, celebrated the National Quality Week which fell
from October 12-18, 2009.
At the Bulk Cement Terminal in Peliyagoda the events started with a
function attended by all employees where they took an oath to be quality
conscious in all activities throughout the process.
The 'Q Flags' was the main symbol used to create awareness of
'Quality' among all employees and outsiders who visited the Plant during
the week.
A competition among employees to write slogans on Quality and an
Effective lecture on 'Green Productivity' delivered by T.G.G.
Dharmawardana, Director Systems Certification SLSI, were also planned
for the week.
At the inaugural session, addressing the employees the senior manager
QSHE, Mrs. Shiromanie Ranatunga stressed the importance of Quality as
Strategic Management Tool for rising competitiveness. She explained the
company's integrated methods followed, in line with current
international standards, to gear the management of Occupational Health
and Safety and the Work Environment in order to strengthen the
background to provide a cement which exceed customer requirements.
The Chief Executive Kiran Redkar recently received the Renewed
Quality Management System Certification aligned to the Latest Standard
ISO 9001:2008, from A. R. L. Wijesekara, Chairman SLSI.
UltraTech Cement Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., hold a record of being the first
cement company to receive the QMS, EMS and OHSAS certifications from Sri
Lanka Standards Institution.
