All that glitters at Amaran is gold

Amitha Gamage

Amaran Gems and Jewellery was established in 1991 by Amitha Gamage as a venture to add value to gem stones but today it manufacture jewellery in Sterling Silver, white gold and yellow gold.

The main unique feature of Amaran is that we do the design first and select the gem stones accordingly, said the Chairman and Managing Director Amitha Gamage.

Amaran was established in 1991 and is equipped with a state-of-the-art Lapidary and a work force of 265 employees, said Chairman Amitha Gamage.

At present Amaran has skilled craftsmen who are all-rounders including designers who are graduates of the University of Moratuwa. All designs at Amaran are inspired by something be it a building, a flower or an insect and the jewellery is all handcrafted.

At Amaran you can buy a piece of designer jewellery off the shelf or place an order selecting the colour design as well as all other details.

Amaran exports to USA and Germany but now we are promoting the bridal jewellery as well.

If a customer brings the saree our designers will sit with them and design the jewellery and most importantly a customer can pay for the jewellery on an instalment basis.

Senior Designer Madurika who has done a Jewellery designing special degree said that since the theme of Amaran is manufacturing innovative designer jewellery we as designers can design freely and also get involved in the whole process of manufacturing.

She said that until she is satisfied she doesn't send the design for production.

Most importantly a design might take one day or one month to be completed.

If it is a saree we design to suit the taste of the individual.

Gamage said that they concentrate a lot on research and there is something for everyone as it is affordable too.

As the leading Gem cutters in the sphere of Sri Lankan Gem and Jewellery, Amaran has been continually committed to ensuring the satisfaction of its customers locally and internationally.

Amaran also offers a value added service of gem cutting, for faceting any type of rough gem stone varying from precious Montana Sapphires to Semi Precious stones including brittle stones such as Kunzite, sent by dealers all around the world.
