Hair Art? Care for

The dazzling and funky hair-raising designs of the Ramani Fernando, Sunsilk Hair Academy graduates will turn heads on November 24 at the Galadari Hotel. With over 100 models catwalking and displaying the glory of the young and upcoming hair dressers, every hair style will be a work of art.

The Hair Art 2009 will introduce new methodologies in hair styling including the cut and curl, cut and shave and creative hair designs that are sure to amaze any onlooker. A multitude of daring and bold colours infused to give a predominantly effective image will portray Sri Lanka’s youth as the most ‘happening’ lot in the world.

Speaking to Sunday Observer was creative director of the event, renowned designer and artist Senaka de Silva, who said, “We’re going to start with a tribal segment because most of our hair designs were originally conceived during those aboriginal times. We’re going with the inspiration of Australian aborigines, the Australian island aborigines, African, South American and even Sri Lankan styles to grace the ramp.” Sporting a tribal hair design himself, Senaka said that they will progress from tribal to more futuristic looks like the long hair designs and the shaven head and colour trend.

“We’re taking the audience from past to present with hair fashion that is bound to stun even the trendiest of trend-setters” he said with a fashionable smile. Ramani Fernando, the hot name in hair fashion and bridal dressing, said that the graduates are creative and more open to new styles. “At the moment, we’re offering the Diploma in Hair Dressing from City & Guilds and we’re also in the process of getting the Advanced Diploma to enhance the skills of our local hairdressers” said she.

True enough, Ramani added that international hair styles are now becoming part of Sri Lankan culture and fashion. In keeping with their `Life can’t wait, make it happen’ motto, Sunsilk has moved up a notch to give twenty scholarships for deserving hair stylists worth Rs. 100,000 each. Brand Manager Danushka said that Sunsilk is a constantly evolving brand and by joining with Ramani Fernando Salons and Senaka, they will have an outstanding and hair-raising show in `Hair Art 2009’! So be prepared to see the best of the best when the most beautiful designs are revealed!
