Navy recovers 5,200 detonators

The Navy recovered 5,200 detonators in a search operation at Chettikulam, Vavuniya on Friday. These detonators were believed to have been hidden by the LTTE for their mine attacks, according to Defence sources.

The sources said that weapons were also recovered at Mathiamadu and Wellamullivaikkal on Friday.

The lethal items found in these areas were - 22 weapon magazine, a T56 rifle, 58 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, six rocket propelled grenades, eight Arul type explosives, six cyanide powder packets with five of them weighting two killogrammes and another weighting 1 Kg, 3 hand grenades and four empty M-16 rifle magazines.
