IBM appoints new Country GM
IBM appointed Chrishan Fernando as the Country General Manager of its
Sri Lanka operations. The appointment reflects IBM's commitment to
further developing its presence and opportunities in Sri Lanka, which is
a significant growth market within IBM's India/South Asia unit.
With more than 25 years in the IT industry in Sri Lanka and the South
Asia region, Fernando brings with him substantial market knowledge and
experience that will enable IBM to accelerate growth and enhance market
share. Previously, Fernando was with Hewlett Packard Ltd. (HP) for more
than twelve years as its Country Manager in Sri Lanka and Maldives. His
previous responsibilities included managing markets in Bangladesh, Nepal
and other parts of South Asia.
Speaking on the appointment, Shanker Annaswamy, Regional General
Manager, IBM India/South Asia said, The Sri Lankan IT market holds
promise for IBM. Chrishan Fernando is a seasoned leader who will enable
us to effectively tap potential business opportunities and drive growth
in Sri Lanka. He has a unique understanding of market requirements in
this country, and we are confident that his knowledge, experience and
leadership will help us take the IBM business to new levels in this
region.
He will helm the leadership team of IBM Sri Lanka, while taking
additional business direction from the Emerging Markets Leader for IBM
India/South Asia. I am delighted to be joining IBM in a leadership
capacity in Sri Lanka.

Fernando has held key responsibilities as a diplomat of the Sri Lanka
Institute of Marketing, where he has been conferred the status of a
Practicing Marketer, Sri Lanka, and is also a Fellow of the Asia Pacific
Marketing Federation.
