Over 74 exhibits were showcased depicting Sri Lanka's extraordinary aquatic eco-system.

The 'Water and Life' exhibition series highlight the critical issue of depletting water resources and inadequate preservation systems for this vital natural resource. Recognizing the fact that the lack of water as a resource will spell doom to agro based communities, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC stepped forward as sponsor for this national project to safeguard the livelihood of farming communities. Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister of Ports and Aviation and Irrigation Management, Minister Champika Ranawaka, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Minister of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services Development, Minister Hemakumara Nanayakkara, Minister of Agriculture, Minister Bertie Premalal Dissanayake, Chief Minister, North Central Province and Omar Kamil, Chief City Administrator of the Colombo Municipal Council, were among the special invitees that attended the inaugural launch ceremony of the exhibition. Several schools from nearby suburbs and other city locations also participated.

"Sri Lanka is a nation that depends on agriculture as the main source of livelihood.

Therefore, it is every citizen's responsibility to protect and preserve all natural water resources in the island" commented Kishu Gomes, Managing Director and CEO of Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC.

"We take pride in being the first Corporate Citizen from the private sector to come forward to facilitate this landmark event in the history of Sri Lanka.

Living in a day and age where this vital natural resource is unprotected, polluted and scarce, we decided to embark on this national programme to address this critical issue which will determine the well-being and sustenance of our future generation which is vital to the socio-economic growth of the country" he continued.

Several locations around the country have been identified to conduct the exhibition next year.
