The official rebranding took place at a ceremony attended by the Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, chief guest and Chairman of Lanka Hospitals Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. With the new launch the State sector entered into private healthcare business.

The hospital came under Government control after Sri Lanka Insurance (SLI) reverted to Government control following a Supreme Court order.

A new board of directors was appointed in August and the licensing and support service agreement with Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, India, expired on November 16. At the launching ceremony Cabraal stressed that the venture should earn returns on investment and whether it is a private or public institution.

The chairman of the company earned good results from the investments in different undertaking. By continuing with that principle a good service is expected by the patients and looking after the staff LH should also earn revenue, he said.

The Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Insurance, the controlling shareholder of LH Nalaka Godahewa said, the hospital today stands on the threshold of a new beginning.

I can assure you that our vision for the company is to achieve the highest level of corporate excellence in the immediate future. Our vision for the Company mirrors the bold vision of the President for our nation. In the year ahead we will put in place a number of strategic initiatives with an aim to propel LH to be positioned as a hospital and a corporate that is truly world class.

He said that in the future LH will set up a chain of hospitals to provide quality healthcare at an affordable price to people living even outside Colombo. Our medium term goal is to be recognised as one of the best health care solution providers in the South Asian region.

The new logo of the hospital, the standard hospital cross shape through the formation of four "L"s depicting Lifeblood, Leap (technology), Link and Luxury.

The CEO of LH said the new logo represents our devotion and dedication to its cause, the understanding of the customers' medical needs and the belief that everyone requires an equal amount of attention when they walk in through the doors without discrimination.
