Lanka strikes gold at Beijing Jewellery Show

A record number of exhibitors and visitors at the 29th China International Jewellery Fair - Beijing-held from 5-9 November 2009, at the China International Exhibition Center, Beijing propelled the event to unprecedented success with both exhibitors and buyers reporting an increase in confirmed orders during the five day Fair, Hasitha Tillekeratne Chairman/CEO of National Gem and Jewellery Authority said.

Beijing is the capital and the most important media center of China. It has amazing consumption market and trading environment for Gems and Jewellery.

The market location of Beijing is playing an important role of connection and guidance to China, especially to the north region of China.

It has represented a considerable share of the Chinese Jewellery market.

The exhibition venue is more than 30,000 sqm of space which has facilitated over 1,500 trading booths.

The 29th edition of this annual event has made a platform for the jewellers in the region who produce more passionate and appealing to fashion-conscious consumers in the new era. Encouraging results were recorded at the 2009 edition of the Fair, with 63,000 buyers from 48 countries and regions attending, while domestic buyers came from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.

The 2009 edition was the largest in the Show's 29 year history and set records in terms of visitors, exhibitors and exhibition space. Continuing last year's success, this year event attracted over 1500 exhibitors from the USA, Italy, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Turkey including Sri Lanka to feature their exclusive products.

A variety of magnificent jewellery products of excellent craftsmanship were showcased at the five-day event.

Ambassador for Sri Lanka in China Karunathilake Amunugama visited the 'Sri Lanka Pavilion' and inspired the participants, and congratulated 'NGJA' for continuing with the 'National Pavilion' concept.

The National Gem and Jewellery Authority has identified the market requirements and wish to create a strong platform for fine quality gems and gem studded Jewellery in China. Tillekeratne added that in its expanded promotional programme 'NGJA' intends to organize 'Sri Lanka Pavilions' at four leading gem and jewellery event in China in the year 2010.
