Management denies sale of EAP channel

Speculation was rife that a well-known politician was having negotiations with the management of Swarnavahini TV channel which is owned by EAP Networks (PVT) Ltd to purchase the channel. When contacted by Sunday Observer Managing Director of the company Jeewaka Edirisinghe vehemently denied it saying that no politician has approached us and I have also not spoken to a politician through an intermediary. There are no discussions on this whatsoever and it is only a rumour.

The Swarnavahini TV channel was launched on March 16, 1997. The channel is owned by EAP Networks (Pvt) Ltd a fully owned subsidiary of the EAP Group. EAP Networks operates television channels - Swarnavahini and ETV and radio channels - Shree, E FM and Raja FM.

The EAP name has for decades been synonymous in Sri Lanka with gold and jewellery. The company's expertise in recent times has also extended to media and entertainment, financing, technology, import and export, alternative power, real estate and property development.

Today the group has 12 film theatres, 13 jewellery outlets, 22 pawning centres, three hotels, EAP Exports and Edirisinghe Trust Investment.
