Bountiful harvest expected from pilot corn cultivation project

Plenty Foods (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., initiated Corn cultivation as a pilot project in 300 acres in the Vavuniya District in the month of September in support of the Government's resettlement program by mobilizing 300 farmers who signed Forward Sales Contracts, with the assurance of the Company, of purchasing the harvest for production of Samaposha.

Extension services were provided together with all agriculture inputs as for the Company's agriculture programs carried out in the other areas in the country hitherto. According to the Agriculture experts the crop has been found very successful and a bountiful harvest expected from the area which would support the farmers in their livelihood.

This program would be expanded into other areas of the Northern Province by introducing crops such as Green Gram, Soya and Kurakkan.
