Foreign, local powers behind UNP-JVP alliance- Minister Maithripala
by L.S. Ananda WEDAARACHCHI
Foreign
and local elements that supported terrorist leader Vellupillai
Prabhakaran were behind the UNP-JVP alliance.
A large number of foreign ministers, high officials and envoys
visited Sri Lanka during the final stages of the humanitarian operation,
and ninety-nine percent of them did not come to help the country. They
wanted the Government to stop the operation and save Prabhakaran and the
LTTE, said SLFP General Secretary, Agriculture and Agrarian Development
Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
The Minister said that Sarath Fonseka had said that he did not have
an idea to contest the Presidency two months ago. However, foreign and
local elements, who are against President Mahinda Rajapaksa due to his
patriotic policies, are behind Fonseka changing his mind, he said.
There is strong evidence that foreign elements and spy services had
spent a massive amount of euros and Dollars to break the patriotic front
led by President Rajapaksa.
Neither a single senior leader of the SLFP nor a responsible member
of the SLFP/UPFA would support an unholy UNP-JVP alliance and their
Presidential candidate Fonseka. UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and JVP
Secretary Tilvin Silva who have no place in the country hope to gain
power through Fonseka, who had no development plan of his own for the
country, he said.
"The country is positioned in a strategic place in Asia that former
colonial powers conquered by invasion, but today foreign powers were
trying to achieve the same objective not with the use of arms, but by
employing local anti-national forces and persons to work for them", he
said.
