Boost for fishing industry in North

The Government is determined to boost the fishing industry in the
North which was hampered by LTTE terrorism, Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Ministry sources said.
According to the sources, under a mid-term development drive Rupees
1165 million has been reserved by the Government to boost the fishing
industry of the North under the 'Uthuru Wasanthaya' accelerated Northern
development drive.
Accordingly, fishing sector development projects have been
implemented in Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi Districts
under this project.
Moves are under way to set up NARA regional offices in the North.
Development projects are under way on the fishing harbours and jetties
in the North.
With the intention of promoting the living standards of fresh water
fishermen, fresh water fish breeding centres will be started in the
North. Centres to breed hatching will also be set up, the sources added.
