State-of-the-art exhibition centre in Jaffna
A total of 128 acres have been allocated in Chankanai to build a
state- of-the-art exhibition and convention centre, said GM Sri Lanka
Conventions Bureau Vipula Wanigasekera.
He said that the GA Jaffna Ganesh is working on the project and
another site inspection will take place before the survey and clearance
are obtained.
The government is planning to call for international tenders for
construction while many international investors have shown a keen
interest on this project with an investment in the range of Rs. 600-800
mn.
Chankanai is 30 minutes drive from The Jaffna town and we are hoping
to complete the project within two years, said Wanigasekera addressing
the launch of the Jaffna International Trade Fair. Governor of the
Northern Province Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said that 3,200 big and
small projects are being done in the Northern province while in Jaffna
alone there are 700 projects related to infrastructure being carried
out.
All these projects are being done under the ‘Uthuru Vasanthaya’. The
180 day program under the Uthuru Vasanthaya program will be completed in
January while the three year plan will continue, said Major General
Chandrasiri. The Jaffna International Trade Fair (JITF) themed ‘Your
Gateway to Yarlpanam’ will be held from April 18-20 at the Jaffna
Central College.SG
