GSK helps children's home

The Angela Children's Home in Moratuwa was the latest beneficiary of the annual 'Orange Day' community initiative of GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK) in Sri Lanka.

Employees of GSK voluntarily gathered at the home recently, to colourwash the home and to clean the garden. The company also donated an overhead water tank and water pump with other necessary facilities.

The children were provided with lunch by the company. Employees of GSK spent a fun-filled evening with the children.

GSK Sri Lanka Managing Director Stuart Chapman said: "Our employees in Sri Lanka have enthusiastically taken on the 'Orange Day' initiative which is a global programme of GSK. This demonstrates their commitment to support the welfare of the local community."

GSK's 'Orange Day' was initiated in 2008 to promote engagement of employees and the community. The project is intended to make a difference in communities where GSK employees live and work. In Sri Lanka last year, GSK employees renovated a ward at the Lunawa District Hospital to mark the 'Orange Day.'

GSK has also undertaken several other community projects in Sri Lanka this year including the launch of a three year project costing Rs. 39 million to empower persons with disabilities in Southern Sri Lanka.
