Bonus for Insurance policyholders

The policyholders of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd, will receive the largest bonus ever received by an insurance company in Sri Lanka. The Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said at a recent media conference that they have declared an interim bonus of Rs 3 billion for its Life Policyholders.

He said, there was a 40 per cent increase compared to the previous year bonuses. It was possible to make this kind of payment following the take over of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation by the government on June 4.

"Bonuses are usually declared based on the surpluses. It was our duty to share the return with policyholders,."he said.

He said, President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Minister of Finance has given clear instructions to give better returns to its policyholders.

The new board of directors are now looking at the financial stability and performance of the corporation to give better returns to policyholders and to provide insurance cover to every citizen.

Godahewa further said as a corporation they have intensified efforts to increase awareness of insurance as a fundamental need of the people.
