A world without you?

With the dawn of 2005, you had already moved into another work place. Unexpectedly I saw you on a wonderful evening at a special occasion.

A variety of colours created by a rainbow far away in the sky lighted up the occasion so brightly. I saw you judging an event. Accidentally I could recognize a secret from your eyes which had been written in your mind. I was able to read it.

Since that date I have been in a great desire to meet you.

I can still remember the date when I first met you. It was my first year in the university. I was a little bit late for the session. But fortunately there was a vacant seat for me near the door. Once the time was over, you came close to me and asked ‘Have you finished madam’? With our first meeting, I felt that you are so familiar to me although we hadn’t met before.

One day in 2004, I was at the refectory. Within half an hour I had to face a test. There were two colourful pens in my hand. Suddenly I saw that you were looking at me beyond 2 or 3 tables away while enjoying some shorteats. I felt a little bit shy.

Now I wonder why I couldn’t understand your love for me early. Those days I was trying to concentrate on my studies since I had to fulfil the expectations of my family members. That is the reason for missing you several times.

Unfortunately I only know your first name. I have been waiting for nearly five years to meet you. How can I allow thoughts of you that bloomed in my heart for you to fade away? I can’t even imagine a world without you. I want to meet you and tell you how much I love you. I am sure you will reply if there is room in your heart for me and if you can still remember me. I wish you a bright future!

The wind, the sun and the rain

What would an autumn rain be like?
Without the rattling beads of cold,
Dropping down noisily.
Falling in perfect harmony.
How would a refreshing cold breeze be?
Without the soft slow moving wind,
Cooling down the burning heat,
Flowing ever so soothingly,
You’ve been with me through summer,
We’ve had our times under the bright yellow sun.
You’ve been with me through winter,
Through the cold we’ve kept each other warm.
Like strings on a guitar -
Resonating together to make the perfect chord,
We sweeten up our worlds,
Softly strumming our lives up and down.
The strings may break,
The strings can be replaced.
But the chords would always stay the same.
For you and I, we are the wind, the sun, the rain,
My companion, my accomplice, my friend.

- Vidula Nandasena
