'Teachers can create better future for students'

Though politicians and rulers can supply buildings, electricity, drinking water, roads and the other facilities for the student population, only the teachers can create a better future for them, Sabaragamuwa Governor Janaka Priyantha Bandara said. He was addressing a meeting after the re-opening of the R/Kopikella Vidyalaya in the boundary of 'Sinharaja rain forest about 62 kilo metres off the Kalawana town.

The decision was taken to re-open the school as a result of the consideration of Governor, Bandara. The Governor said he has received particulars related to 25 closed schools in the province and hope to re-open them by the 2010.

Re-opening of this Vidyalaya is similar to closure of a number of prisons, he said.

The Governor said it is a shame and sorry to mention a majority of gender based crimes is reported from the Ratnapura district.

It is necessary to produce a well-balanced minded and law-abiding citizens for the society through proper education to erase out this situation.
