Tighter security allowed for Fonseka

The required personal security for Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka was approved immediately by the Presidential Secretariat.

A bullet proof BMW car, two Land Rover jeeps with drivers, ten commando soldiers and fifty two soldiers, including two Sinha Regiment officers and weapons were given to Sarath Fonseka for his personal security, by the government.

Fonseka made a request from Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga by his letter dated 2009 November 16 with regard to his personal security arrangements after his retirement. A reply was sent by President's Secretary dated 18 November, 2009, within two days and therein, the Presidential Secretariat immediately arranged a special security detail for Sarath Fonseka.
