Career guidence EDEX - 2010 for urban and rural youth

Sri Lanka's largest single nationwide platform, the EDEX-2010
educational and career guidance program, connecting Sri Lankan urban and
rural youth with choices, options and opportunities will be opened at
the BMICH on January 15.
The career guidance program will be conducted by Royal College Union,
Colombo and it will be open to the public from January 15 to 17.

`To empower Sri Lankan Youth to Be Globally Competitive' is the
vision of the three-day EDEX exhibition.
Commenting on the program, Deputy Principal, Royal College
Mrs. Lakshmi Attygala highlighted the importance of conducting such a
program which benefits the youth in the country, and thanked the Royal
College Union for their painstaking effort taken to fulfil the
aspirations of young school-leavers both in the urban and rural sectors.
EDEX, Chairman Kamal Abeysinghe, a pioneer behind this mega event
said the objective of holding this exhibition is to educate the local
youth how to select relevant higher educational courses after completing
their secondary education and thereafter how to find suitable employment
opportunities.
He said the EDEX pavilion will showcase a wide array of professionals
and training institutes in a variety of fields such as Information
Communications Technology, Accountancy, Business Management,
Engineering, Healthcare, Marketing, Fashion Design, Maritime, Aviation,
Animation, Culinary and Sewing and Tourism.
The EDEX will also help Lankan youth to pursue a higher studies here
and abroad.
Abeysinghe said over 300 stalls representing nearly 23 countries and
officials from over 250 foreign universities including USA, UK,
Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, France, Malaysia, India, China,
Nepal, Maldives and the UAE will make representations at the EDEX
through their local agents.
The exhibition will also help the participant youth to attend
seminars and workshops at the BMICH to improve their higher education,
vocational and technical skills development.
RCU, Secretary Rizan Nazeer said the EDEX 2010 will be the one-stop
platform not only for school-leavers, but also for students,
undergraduates and also parents alike to seek guidance on higher
education, vocational training and skills development.
He said the EDEX 2010 exhibition will also be held at the Kandy City
Centre on January 19 and 20 for the benefit of children in distant
areas.
The Presidential Secretariat, Ministry of Education, Ministry of
Labour Relations and Manpower and Ministry of Vocational Training have
endorsed the event in recognition of the objectives and the close
alignment of the vision of EDEX.
