Beckoning the ‘White Swan’

Mohamad Shaffraz is no stranger to the mini screen. The popular director is well known among teledrama enthusiasts for directing ‘Vasudha’ one of the longest teledramas to ever hit television. He recently entered the wide screen with ‘Sudu Hansi’ (White Swan).

Shaffraz’s maiden cinematic creation projects a tragic tale of a young man who is caught between three women. Anjana comes to town seeking employment. He finally lands a job as a driver for a beautiful dame named Mrs. Ransiri who notes a striking resemblance between the youth and her childhood sweetheart, Clifford.

She treats him kindly and gradually approaches him hoping to seek her lost love. Her daughter, Maleesha, too becomes fascinated by Anjana. However he has eyes only for Wathsala, his girlfriend who lives in his village. Who will Anjana finally choose?

Arjuna Kamalanath, Semini Iddamalgoda, Ameesha Kavindi and Muthu Tharanga take on the lead roles in ‘Sudu Hansi’. The movie also features Neel Alles, Sarath Chandrasiri, Ajith Weerasinghe, Thushari Vehanna, Nayana Rambukkanage, Dilani Nikahatiya and Camillus Yapa. ‘Sudu Hansi’ is based on Gamini Wasalasooriya’s novel of the same title.Pushpakumara Bandara Rajaguru, the cameraman of the project, is equipped with 19 years of experience in the field. He had started off with commercials and even clinched the award for the most famous commercial in 2007.

An Old Boy of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo, Rajaguru had been the cinematographer of creations like ‘Heat FM’, ‘Sir Last Chance’, ‘It’s a Matter of Love’ and many other projects including the documentary on the naval forces directed by Dr. D.B. Nihalsinghe.

Director Shaffraz was a student of Ananda College, Colombo. He had begun his stint with art in the radio sector as a child artiste. Later he rendered his voice for television before meeting H.D. Premaratne who helped him to launch his career.

Since then he had worked with Gamini Haththotuwegama and many more. Praveen Jayaratne is the editor and Sumith Kudaligama is the art director. Music is by Navaratne Gamage while Shaffraz and Dharshana Kapuge penned the lyrics.

The background vocals are sung by Amarasiri Peries and Uresha Ravihari. Sisira Hewathanna and Chandrika Godathanna produced the film being is in the CEL circuit.
