Majeed predicts victory for President

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will record a landslide victory at the Presidential Election, Cooperative Minister Najeeb A. Majeed said.

The majority of the people in the Eastern Province have lined up with President Rajapaksa to assure his victory, despite Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem making abortive attempts to attract the vote base, he said.

Minister Majeed made these observations at a public rally held in Muttur in support of UPFA Presidential candidate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Minister Majeed noted that late Minister M.H.M. Ashraff strove to make the Muslim community aware of their role in politics.

Hakeem who assumed the leadership of the SLMC after the assassination of M.H.M. Ashraff didn't do this.

The Muslims in the Eastern Province flocked behind President Rajapaksa due to Hakeem aligning himself with the UNP, he said.
