Yet another election promise by Fonseka
New Democratic Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka added yet
another pledge to his ever growing lot of election promises when he
assured to grant each unemployed graduate Rs. 3,000 a month and Rs.
2,000 a month to unemployed youth, if he wins next week’s elections.
Addressing the youth at a democracy meeting organised by the UNP’s
youth wing, at Booker Hall in Colombo, Fonseka gave his latest election
promise to impress the youth.
He has earlier pledged to grant a 10,000 rupee pay hike to public
servants and Rs. 2,000 monthly allowance for every senior citizen over
60 years. Though economists and politicians in the country muse over the
‘unrealistic promises’ to woo the voters, Fonseka has not come out with
his latest election pledge. However, he has not given a specific date to
keep the promise.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the meeting said
the youth in Sri Lanka must be integrated in the development process as
they are the future of the country. Wickremesinghe requested the youth
to think progressively for their own good and for country’s good. |
