Upcountry people not misled by rumours
by Mohammed Naalir
The upcountry people cannot be cheated. The Opposition is trying to
mislead people by using the increased cost of living, Minister Arumugan
Thondaman said.
Addressing the election rally held under the patronage of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister Thondaman said the upcountry people will
cast their votes for President Mahinda Rajapaksa who treat the upcountry
people well.
He said the people who thronged to Kotagala and Ragala are an
indication of the victory of President Rajapaksa.
The Opposition has united to fabricate stories. Rumours are being
spread that the Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) is set to join the
Opposition. Minister Thondaman urged the upcountry people not to get
carried away by the meaningless Opposition propaganda.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Naveen Dissanayake said no one can
stop the victory of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
His victory cannot be stopped by slinging mud or tarnishing his
image.
“The people should not take incorrect decisions based on spurious
promises. It is the duty of all to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa
who ended thirty years of terrorism. I was also in the UNP. Our leader
didn’t give prominence to others’ ideas.
“That is why fifteen UNP Parliamentarians including myself joined the
Government and extended our support to eradicate terrorism,” he said.
Deputy Minister Puthrasigamani said they were defeated in the past
elections, contesting with the Opposition.
Now we are with the Government. Not only us, but the people in the
Northern and Eastern Provinces are also with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Minister C.B. Ratnayake said President Mahinda Rajapaksa united the
country, eradicating terrorism.
He created the way for a good future by fulfilling the promises given
to the people by him. Now the country is undergoing a massive
development phase.
