Puttalam-Mannar Road opens today

The Puttalam-Mannar Road renovated by the engineering division of the Navy at a cost of Rs. 1,000 million will be opened this morning by Senior Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa (MP).

The width of this road is 9 metres. In the early stage only heavy vehicles will be permitted to ply along this road. Accordingly the distance from Puttalam to Mannar via Medhawachchiya route is 185 kilometres. The distance from Puttalam to Mannar via Puttalam-Mannar Road is only 105 kilometres.

The distance to Jaffna through Puttalam-Mannar route shorten by 150 kilometres and the travel time declines by four hours. At the same time the travel distance to Mannar from Puttalam via Puttalam-Mannar route shortens by 70 kilometres therefore the travelling time declines by one and half hours or two hours.
