*Presidential poll 2010:
N-E Tamils should act wisely - Dr. Noel Nadesan
by Ananth Palakidnar
The Tamils from the North and the East should act wisely in the
forthcoming presidential poll without being misled by the Tamil
politicians who have a long history of driving their people towards
destructive political decisions, said the Co-ordinator of the Diaspora
Dialogue for Peace and solidarity Dr. Noel Nadesan.
Dr. Noel Nadesan in a statement released on behalf of the Diaspora
Dialogue for Peace and Solidarity said:
“The separatist war launched by the Tamil youth, who were misguided
by the Tamil leadership has now come to an end. The people in the North
and the East the region which was devastated by war for the past three
decades are now living happily with reconstruction and rehabilitation
activities being carried out at a rapid pace.
The terrorist activities had greatly affected the people in the North
and the East. Therefore the annihilation of terrorism in the North and
the East has paved the way for a bright future of the people in the
North and the East.
Agriculture activities, fishing and several small industries, which
were hampered for the past three decades have begun to flourish again.
If we take the North and East political issues, it is very clear that
President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory against terrorism has created a
conducive atmosphere for greater democratic activities.
Parties such as the UNP and the JVP had always stood against Tamils
fulfilling their political aspirations whereas President Rajapaksa who
has greater admiration for the Tamil language has pledged to solve the
ethnic issue through political means in his second term in office.
The Tamils of the North and the East devastated by death and
destruction should not get carried away by the Tamil leadership which is
working against the genuine efforts of President Rajapaksa in bringing
greater peace to the country. The Diaspora Dialogue for Peace and
Solidarity earlier had held talks with President Rajapaksa on several
key issues with regard to the Tamil question in the country.
The Diaspora Dialogue is convinced with the outcome from the
President. Therefore, the Tamils by electing President Rajapaksa for the
second term could expect more constructive developments with regard to
their political issues which remain unsettled.
