Tertiary Education under BOI
The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka granted investment approval for
Northshore College of Business and Technology to provide tertiary
education services under the BOI. Dhammika Perera, Chairman/Director
General who signed an agreement on behalf of the BOI formally presented
the BOI Certificate of Registration to Professor Niranjan Gunawardena,
Director.
The company will establish a modern training institute to provide
tertiary education.
The institute will provide tertiary qualification such as bachelors
degree programmes and masters programmes in their Information
Technology, Engineering and Business Management faculties.
The qualifications are provided in affiliation with recognised
foreign universities as well as local universities. They also expect to
provide training for professional qualifications as well.
Northshore College of Business and Technology is a joint venture
between the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka for an investment of US $
5 million.
The institute located at Colombo 15 will mainly provide the education
services to Sri Lankan students but also expects to enrol foreign
students from other Asian countries. The company will provide employment
for a workforce of 55 of which about 30 will be in the academic staff.
The institute expects to provide training facilities for 2400 students
at the institute. Training is expected to commence in early 2011.
Professor Gunawardena, said that they are looking at establishing
branches in the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Central provinces to
expand the education sector. Directors of Northshore College of Business
and Technology Professor Niranjan Gunawardena, and S. Arunan signed the
agreement on behalf of the company. |
