Make a great first impression
Some men only get one shot. The rest of your life could hinge on
making the right move at the right time. By doing some prep work
beforehand and following a few simple guidelines, you’ll be sure to make
a great first impression with the opposite sex.
Your appearance
Manscape
You would never want to meet someone for the first time and have a
grizzly mat of hair spilling over your collar. Men should trim
everything. Just make sure to keep your hair looking natural. The bare
blade also comes in handy for shaping up your neckline and sideburns.
Neck hair is never good, so you need to make sure things are always
tidied up. You wouldn’t want a person to think twice about calling you.
Finally, when it comes to manscaping, the most important and often
overlooked area is the eyebrows. The first thing anyone looks at is your
face, so avoid the infamous unibrow at all costs while making sure you
don’t whittle your eyebrows down to perfect arches.
Work it out
A great workout can give you the confidence to approach just about
anyone. A regular gym routine will trim your waistline and eventually
lead to more defined muscle. An ideal workout should include at least 30
minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weight training. It will give you
the edge you need.
Dress up while dressing down
You should always look like you tried, but never too hard. Rolling
out of bed isn’t going to land you a date and neither is overworking
your look to the point of looking like a perfectly coiffed member of a
boy band. Wearing a well-tailored blazer always seems to do the trick.
Control your breath
No one needs to tell you to brush your teeth before facing the world,
but you may not have thought about giving that dirty tongue a good
cleaning.
When you’re out and about, keep a breath refresher on you at all
times. Gum has a way of making things look sloppy even when you’re
dressed to impress.
Stick with a small pack of mints that can be chewed and swallowed at
a moment’s notice.
Make scents
Never underestimate the power of a good deodorant that will keep you
smelling fresh even when things get steamy. Just make sure the scent
isn’t overpowering, since you need to save a little room for cologne.
Always apply fragrances to pulse points behind the ears and on your
wrists. Again, don’t overdo it here either. Two to three sprays are all
it takes.
Your behavior
Never cell it
Keep your phone out of sight when approaching someone for the first
time. Focus on the task at hand and refrain from text messaging,
tweeting, Facebook-ing, and all other forms of impersonal (and impolite)
communication. The only way to keep someone’s attention is to make eye
contact and talk face-to-face.
Charge it
Buying women drinks can definitely help lubricate things, but don’t
be the anonymous man who buys a drink and never has the courage to make
a real move. If you’re going to pick up the tab, make sure to start a
conversation first and then seamlessly throw a drink into the mix.
Stand straight
No one likes a slouch. It gives off a lazy, insecure vibe that is
anything but attractive. Good posture is critical, especially if you’re
vertically challenged. You should always stand with your weight on the
balls of your feet rather than the heels. Your head should also be kept
level to the ground. As a check, try standing with your shoulders and
rear flush against a wall. Your head should also make contact with the
wall in this position. If it doesn’t, you may need a little attitude
adjustment.
Go bold or go home
If you’re the good guy, the final frontier for a night out is scoring
digits, but there is a right and a wrong way to do it. After engaging in
conversation, decide if there is a spark that keeps you wanting to find
out more. If that’s the case, be a man and ask for the number – but only
if you intend to use it.
