Southern Buddhist pilgrims throng Nagadeepa

The Jaffna peninsula is attracting a large number of local tourists
from Southern areas and the historic Nagadeepa Vihara in the Nagadeepa
isle. Jaffna, witnessed a record number of Buddhist pilgrims on Friday,
Full Moon Day, informed sources said.
The visitors from the Southern parts of the country are flocking to
the Nallur Kanthaswamy Kovil, the Holy Keerimalai Tank and the historic
Buddhist Holy Shrines in Kankesanthurai and Kantharodai, the sources
said.
According to sources, palmyrah products, plantains, grapes and
vegetables in Jaffna are also having brisk sales along with the popular
palmyrah toddy.
A trader in Jaffna said that with the flow of Southerners into the
peninsula, they need not send their products to the South, as they were
enjoying brisk sales in the North. |
