Tamil diaspora invited to develop North

Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama called upon the Tamil diaspora to help the government to develop Jaffna into a commercial hub.

He was speaking at a ceremony held at the Jaffna Public Library yesterday. He said that Tamils living abroad should contribute to develop Jaffna.

"Normalcy has been restored in the North and this message should be conveyed to the world", he said.

He said his ministry would make foreign investors aware of the peaceful situation in Jaffna and encourage them to invest in development projects.

Minister of Social Services Douglas Devananda and Jaffna Government Agent K. Ghanesh were also present.

Bogollagama who addressed the district secretaries said that a consulate centre would be set up in Jaffna to provide northerners information on foreign employment and education. He said that the first priority is to help those who seek foreign employment.

The minister visited the Nallur Kanthaswamy Kovil and Nagadeepa Vihara. He also spoke to the fisher folk in Kayts.
