Malshan bowls DSS to victory

CRICKET: Right-arm off spinner Malshan Gunasinghe in a devastating
spell captured 6 for 31 to end up with a match bag of 8 for 62 to bowl
D.S. Senanayaka College to a six wicket win over St. Sylvester's
College, Kandy in a schools under-19 cricket match concluded at Police
grounds, Kandy yesterday.
D.S. Senanayake who were set a victory target of 37 shortly after
lunch had to score off these runs quickly.
Earlier in the morning a last wicket stand of 45 between Wasuka
Wetakepotha 66 (10 fours, 1 five, 1 six, 125 balls) and Mohamed Ijaz 24
not out helped D.S. Senanayaka College to extend their lead to 87 which
came in good stead.
When the Sylvestering batted they were off to a reasonably good start
with the openers putting on 46. But the next six wickets fell for just
16 runs and they were ruling at 61 for 6 they lost wickets with the
score at 54, 56, 56, 61 and 61 for five wickets for 6 runs and they
never recovered from this. It was only a valiant knock of 31 by tail
ender Faiz Ahamed helped to reach the 100 run mark. Malshan Gunasinghe
had the fine figures of 15-3-31-6 and he was supported by another off
spinner Haresh Wijenayake who took 3 for 34.
