Ladies' Founder's Day on Feb. 13
The Founder's Day of the Ladies' College Old Girls' Association will
be held on Saturday, February 13 at the College auditorium.
The program will be: 9.30 a.m. - Service - School Chapel; 11.00 a.m.
- Make-up demonstration by Cheryl Gunaratne of Head Masters - (School
Hall); 12.00 noon - Lunch - (Old Hall).

Supiri Mal Dakma from Feb. 12 to 14
Supiri Mal Dakma, an exhibition and sale of plants will be held at
Viharamaha Devi Park from Feb. 12 to 14 from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m.
daily.
For those who are interested in growing orchids as a hobby on
self-employment a lecture on 'Growing orchids as a hobby' will be
delivered by Mrs. Susila Gunasekara President of the Orchid Circle of
Ceylon on the first day at 2.00 p.m..
The exhibition is organised by Mrs. Punya Kathnarachchi.
YMCA lecture
The next lecture on 'The Gospel of St. Mark' will be delivered by Rt.
Rev. Father Nilendra Gunasekere, Professor in Sacred Scripture, National
Seminary Ampitiya, on Monday, Feb. 8 at 5.30 p.m. in the Colombo YMCA
Forum Hall.
The lectures are organised by the Colombo Y.M.C.A. Bible Study
Institute.
It is open to the public.
Variety show
Ran Gee Ranga a variety show will be held at the Elphinstone Theatre
on February 13 at 6.30 p.m. to raise more funds for the Sethara
Insurance Scheme, which was set up to assist performing artistes in
recognition of their services to the Nation on the initiative of Prime
Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayaka.
Renowned performing artistes representing all fields will
participate. It will provide an opportunity for those interested in Sri
Lankan music and other performing arts.
Vocalists: Latha Walpola, Sisira Senaratne, Indrani Senaratne and
Christoper Paul.
Nurti: Gamini Hettiarachchi, Sandun Wijesiri, Victor Wickramage and
Mrs. Anula Bulathsinhala.
OPA congratulates President
The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) has
congratulated President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his landslide victory at
the Presidential Poll.Prof. A.D.V. De S. Indraratna, President of the
OPA in his massage to the President has said:"Please accept the

Presidential Election.

Australia-Sri Lanka Council visit
A two member delegation from the Australia-Sri Lanka (Business)
Council is expected to visit Sri Lanka from February 8-10 to discuss
trade and investment relations between Australia and Sri Lanka.The
delegation comprises Ian McDowell, Chairman and Dr. Rodney Arambewela,
former Honorary Consul and current Vice Chairman of the Australia-Sri
Lanka Council.
Five remanded in extortion case
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a full-scale
investigation into an incident where several convicts who have been
serving long prison terms at the Anuradhapura prison are alleged to have
threatened many people in the country using cellular telephones and
demanded that they deposit monies into account No. 7758470 - Liyanage
Prasad Ranga Gunawardene, Mihintale Bank of Ceylon branch.
Five suspects have been taken in for questioning and remanded in this
connection.
The CID said that people who had fallen prey to this should contact
the CID on 0112 393621 or 0112 422176.
