Maneesha bowls Royal to victory

CRICKET: Royal College completed a rousing innings and 124 runs victory over Wesley College in their 117th annual inter-school under-19 cricket encounter which concluded at Campbell Park yesterday.

This success also marked Royal's 50th victory against their opponents and their first since 1995 in the series which commenced way back in 1893.

The architect behind their win was undoubtedly the left arm spinner Maneesha Tantrigoda who took a matchbag of ten wickets. He picked up four wickets in the second innings following his six wicket haul in the first innings as Wesley College were shot out for a season lowest 50 runs.

Royal: 222.

Wesley: 48 and 50 (M. Tantrigoda 4 for 23, R. Rambukwella 3 for 10, D. Padmanadan 2 for 2).

Isspatana in command

Left-arm spinner Anushka Samaratunga captured four wickets and skipper Thivanka Ranasinghe hit a sparkling century from 78 balls with five sixes and 14 boundaries to help Isipatana College take control over President's College on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which began at Rajagiriya yesterday.

President's College: 131 (H. Kodituwakku 22, G. Vishan 54, D. Fernando 3 for 32, S. Sulochana 2 for 47, A. Samaratunga 4 for 59).

Isipatana: 303 for 7 (N. Sanka 23, I. Rahim 28, D. Warapitiya 19, D. Sandaruwan 51, T. Ranasinghe 102, H. Chalindu 48 n.o, D. Sulochana 21 n.o, A. Dias 2 for 41, V. Madushanka 3 for 77).

Zahira make strong fight back

Zahira College after been dismissed for 211 runs hit back strongly to reduce their opponents Moratu MV for 194 for 7 in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at Maradana yesterday.

Zahira: 211 (M. Zaheer 63, M. Nafiz 38, M. Shihan 24, M. Shabbir 23, S. Vithana 5 for 41, S. Ramesh 2 for 45, J. Samarajeewa 2 for 10).

Moratu MV: 194 for 7 (J. Samarajeewa 43, A. Peiris 35, M. Dilakshan 25, S. Liyanage 34, I. Ibunu 3 for 43, I. Rafi 2 for 36).

Petes gain outright win

Spinners Angelo Emmanuel and Thushan Hemantha snapped up four wickets each to help St. Peter's College trounce De Mazenod College outright by 109 runs in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which concluded at Kandana yesterday.

St. Peter's: 294 and 114 for 3 decl (D. Perera 29, A. Emmanuel 35 n.o, K. Rodrigo 20 n.o.).

De Mazenod: 106 (S. Perera 35, L. Jayaratne 5 for 40) and 193 (T. Costa 35, S. Kodituwakku 37, L. Rodrigo 25, T. Hemantha 4 for 77, A. Emmanuel 4 for 17).
