Arjuna – Ameesha

The Sudu Hansi pair:

In hollywood you have Brangelina (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie) and in Bollywood you have Saifeena (Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor). In Sri Lanka, amidst the handful of celebrity couples, the Arjuna-Ameesha (Arjuna Kamalanath and Ameesha Kavindi) duo stands out not only because of their public appearances but also because they are constantly linked on screen. Questioned about this from Arjuna and pat comes the answer. “Ameesha joined acting around four years ago and I have been in the industry for more than a decade.

I was searching for a partner with similar tastes and expectations. Ameesha fit the role as she is serious about developping her acting skills. She concentrates on movies and does not take on projects like mega teledramas seeking publicity,” he noted on why the couple remain joined at the hip. Their latest project Sudu Hansi (White Swan) is unspooling at the CEL circuit these days. Speaking about the movie Arjuna says that he believes that director Mohamad Shaffraz gave him the much needed breakthrough with the dual roles of Anjana and Clifford.

“Most of my past movies are action packed and involved a lot of fight scenes. Sudu Hansi was a different experience as it is poles apart from the macho roles I have portrayed. It goes along with H.D. Premaratne’s style and embodies an artistic value. The story is based on a book penned by Gamini Wasalasuriya,” he explained. Another significant fact about the film is that it is a purely Sri Lankan project. None of the scenes are copied from foreign movies.

Apart from acting, Arjuna also handles the production and coordinating process because both the director and producer are new to the scene. “I wish to take on more diverse roles and excel as an actor. Many say that there is nothing worthwhile to watch in theatres. We have made a movie which everyone can watch and learn a moral lesson. We would be able to make better films only if the movie brings profit,” Arjuna said while adding that he does not have any plans to turn movie director. Adding her thoughts on the movie Ameesha said that a lot of fans and critics have commented on her role.

“They were enchanted by Maleeshas impish charm. Director Jayantha Chandrasiri and media personality Hema Nalin Karunaratne congratulated me for bringing out her natural emotions,” she chirped. Ameesha had made her entrance to the reel as a dancer.

She says that her ambition had been to become a dance teacher rather than an actress. “My parents and sister noted my talent and encouraged me to take up acting. I have acted in five films but only three have made it to the reel,” she said. The duo will be seen together in Sunil Soma Peries’ movie Jaya Pita Jaya. Arjuna also hopes to portray a significant role in Jayantha Chandrasiris Dutugamunu.
