Sports and Education both important - Shehan Ambepitiya
Shehan Ambepitiya, who became South East Asia’s fastest man in the
hundred metres, says that mixing sports with studies is no obstacle to
either of his careers.
Shehan, hailing from a modest family, his father been a vendor, has
emerged as Sri Lanka’s new torch bearer on the international field after
exit of golden girl Susanthika Jayasinghe.
Now, while Susanthika has moved in to an altogether another field in
the stream of politics contesting at the upcoming general election
Shehan has arrived as Sri Lanka’s new athletic hope.
Shehan said that entering Gateway International School from
President’s College, Rajagiriya where he had first schooled had helped
him in a big way in becoming a professional in the English language
which is a must both, to further his education as well as his sports
career.
“Thanks to the principal and the staff of Gateway International
School I have improved in English. It has helped me to interact with
sportsmen and officials abroad. I must say that I am paying equal
attention to my studies as well as to sports because both matter”.
Shehan said that he owes much to his parents specially his mother and
sister who had inspired him in his sports career.
