Harbour projects open for public viewing
by Mohammed Naalir
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority has decided to allow the public to view
the ongoing development projects in the Colombo harbour during weekends.
Since the security situation in the country has improved, the Ports
Authority has taken steps to let the public visit its construction site.
Visitors will be permitted to enter the harbour premises after the
security procedures are carried out. Visitors are advised to come to the
Galbokka Lighthouse along the harbour entrance at “Chaithya Road”.
Then would be able to witness the development projects from the
lighthouse.
The Colombo Harbour development project commenced in April 2008.
Under the first phase of the project, construction is being carried out
on more than six kilometres of main and other water breakers, access
roads, jetty and other areas.
After the constructions are completed, the land area of the Colombo
harbour will increase to 500 acres.
