All wildlife parks reopen
All wildlife parks have been reopened to facilitate a large influx of
local and foreign tourists to the country, said Environment and Natural
Resources Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
“Steps have been taken to renovate all existing structures, adding
more facilities to woo visitors to the parks which have been some of Sri
Lankas prime attractions.
“We expect the opening of wildlife parks will help Sri Lanka to reach
the target of attracting 2 million tourists by 2016”, he said.
St. Anthony’s relics for public veneration
People from many faiths worship at St. Anthony’s shrine at
Kochchikade. The shrine celebrates its 175th jubilee this year and the
relics of the saint who is associated with the shrine of St. Anthony of
Padua (a small town in Italy) will be brought to Sri Lanka for the first
time to commemorate this historic milestone.
The sacred relics will be brought in procession from the Bandaranaike
International Airport to the Holy shrine on March 7 (from 4 p.m. to 11
p.m.) and will be kept there on March 8 and 9 (from 5 a.m. - 11 p.m.).
Thereafter the sacred relics will be taken to all the dioceses in the
island. The relics will be brought back to the Shrine of St. Anthony at
Kochchikade from March 19 (4 p.m. - 11 p.m.) and March 20 (5 a.m. - 11
p.m.). The relics will be taken in procession to St. Anthony’s shrine at
Liyanagemulla, Seeduwa on March 21.
Off to Japan for doctorate
D. Kandaudahewa of Katubedda, Moratuwa left for Japan on an
invitation from the Department of Sociology, Kanagawa College, Japan. He
will undergo training related to nutrition, taste and daily activities
of adult person accommodated in elderly homes of Sri Lanka. He will
conduct this survey as a compulsory requirement for his doctoral thesis.
Mr. Kandaudahewa was awarded a special degree in Economics and a
diploma in Business Management by the University of Kelaniya and the
National Institute of Business Management respectively and is currently
the sub-warden of University of Moratuwa.
Kokeliya passing-out parade on March 4
The passing-out parade on completion of the No 20 Advance Infantry
Platoon training course will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 9.00 a.m.
at Kokeliya Combat Training School, Vavuniya.
Brigadier A.W.M.A.W.N. Ranawana, R.W.P, R.S.P, P.S.C, Commander of
the 61 Brigade will be the chief guest.

The colourful procession organised by the Bohra community of
Sri Lanka to mark Milad-un-Nabi, Prophet Mohamed’s (SA)
birthday celebrations was held on Friday at Maliban Street,
Colombo 11. The procession proceeded along Maliban Street,
Second Cross Street, Main Street, Third Cross Street, Keyzer
Street and Masjid (Mosque) on Fourth Cross Street.
Dignitaries and eminent personalities of the Bohra community
participated. Here the President of the Anjuman-E-Saifi (Sri
Lanka Trust), Noordeen Bhaisaheb Janab Amilsaheb with other
dignitaries and children in the procession.
