Joes trounce Ananda by an innings

CRICKET: Superb bowling performance by Josephian - medium pacer Chathuranga Kumara (11 for 87) guided St. Joseph's College to an outright win over Ananda College, Colombo in their inter-school under 19 cricket tournament match played at the St. Joseph's College ground, Darley Road yesterday.

St. Joseph's College had failed to make an impact in the recent past and their previous victory was recorded in 1930. St. Joseph's College humbled Ananda College by innings and 77 runs to record their outright win in after a lapse of 80 years.

St. Joseph's College scored 325 runs in their first innings and in reply Ananda made 102 and later 146 runs in their second innings.

St. Joseph's: 325 all out (S. Samarasekara 21, E. Silva 63, C. Jayasinghe 74, E. Kumara 74, S. Jayathilake 26, S. Perera 2 for 67, M. Janadi 3 for 58, M. Perera 2 for 106, P. Madushan 2 for 17).

Ananda College: 102 all out (Geeshan Wimaladharma 40, Tharaka Samarakoon 23, Chathuranga Kumara 5 for 48) and 146 all out (Udeesh Nadiranga 20, Minura Janadi 37, Sachitha Dewage 21, Chathuranga Kumara 6 for 39).

Two good bowling performance by Peterite Julian de Silva (6 for 97) helped them bundle out St. Peter's College for 209 runs in their first innings and 270 in their second innings in the inter school under-19 cricket match which began at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

St. Joseph's College: 209 (Vishal Wikramarathne 36, Kevin Bernadas 27, Ramesh Withanarachi 54, Julian de Silva 4 for 41, Ashith Meki 4 for 48) and 270 (Nishitha Perera 30, Ramesh Withanarachi 40, Primal Perera 42, Angelo Rodriga 33, Ali Khan 3 for 44, Julian De Silva 2 for 56, Ranitha Liyanarachi 2 for 46).

St. Peter's College: 187 (Shashin Fernando 75, Lahiru Milanth 34, Raveen Peruwel 2 for 29) and 86 for 2 wickets (Shanaka Panditharathne 38 n.o, Shashin Fernando 26 n.o).

Drawn game

Three fine half centuries by Nipun Karunanayake (54), Primesh Dassanayake(65), and Suranga Thennakoon (73) guided Nalanda College score 324 runs in their second innings against S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia in their under 19 cricket tournament match played at Darley Road yesterday.

S. Thomas': 167 (Ashen Fernando 31, Chamod Pathirana 48, Lalinda Peiris 23, Rangana Kure 5 for 24, Dinuk Jayasinghe 4 for 45) and 179 (Kvindu Perera 25, Nuwan Kavinda 50, Ashen Fernando 35, Koshan Dhanushka 2 for 12, Rangana Kure 4 for 45, Gayan Medawaththa 2 for 6).

Nalanda College: 324 for 9 (Prashan Wickramasinghe 25, Nipun Karunanayake 54, Adeesha Nanayakkara 30, Primesh Dassanayake 65, Suranga Thennakoon 73, Nilaksha Fernando 3 for 102, Umesh Fernando 2 for 45, Dinesh Walpita 3 for 36) and 11 for 1 wicket.
