Sri Lanka sends three boxers for Asian Youth C'ships

BOXING: Sri Lanka will send a team of three boxers with one standby
for the Asian Youth Boxing Championships to be held in Iran from March 3
to 11. There will be over 20 countries that will participate at the
championship.
The Sri Lanka will have H.M.D.V.R. Herath of Vidyartha College as
captain of the team. Susantha Weerasena, junior Sri Lanka boxing coach
will accompany the team as manager-cum-coach.
The Sri Lanka team: B.G.R.I. Warnasuriya (Vidyartha College) will
compete in the Light Flyweight Class (48 kgs), H.M.D.V.R. Herath (Vidyartha
College) will be in the Flyweight Class (51 kgs), Washika Suduwelikanda
(Royal College, Colombo) will be in the Bantam Weight Class (54 kgs) and
the standby: J.G. Nissanka (Vidyartha College) will be in the Feather
weight Class (57 kgs).
Then there will be W.I.P. Perera - a former Army boxer will be a
referee at the meet.
The team will leave Sri Lanka on March 2 for Iran. The winners at the
meet will qualify to compete in the World Championships to be held in
April this year. |
