Observer staffer's father dies

Palitha Ranaweera, father of Sunday Observer Staffer Roshini Ranaweera passed away on Thursday (18.03.10). Late Mr. Ranaweera, a teacher retired from service in 2001, from Matara Maha Vidyalaya.

The funeral took place at the public cemetery, Kalapaluwawa on Saturday (March 20). He leaves his wife Bandu and son Somitha.


Feng Shui seminar today

Prof. Chew Ken Long who is here to explain the true art and way of Feng Shui at a seminar at the Maharagama Youth Centre today from 9.00 a.m. to 12 noon said recently that it will be good, if the nation at large votes for President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Feng Shui is related with many things such as environment, time (calendar, astrology) and other things. It's not politics and it's no religion. This is basically making people live in a harmonious environment to enhance their living lifestyle which will lead to a positive result such as building up self confidence which is the key to start anything."

Feng Shui is over 5000 years old, and many people around the world use it for healing purposes, refraining from western medical practice and use it to help their businesses and create a peaceful atmosphere in their homes.

Aadi vasis bless Minister Ranawaka

Aadi vasis invoked blessings on Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patalee Champika Ranawaka recently. The Minister who was blessed by the Aadi vasis for his efforts to protect the environment said his Ministry was made into a profit-earning body.

He said his election campaign is unique as it does not use posters, firecrackers or polythene.

He appealed to the voters to elect those who could contribute to make Sri Lanka, the pride of the world in accordance with the Mahinda Chintana, Idiri Dekma.


Planters meeting ends in brawl

The 46th general meeting of the Nuwara Eliya District Planters’ Association (PA) ended in fisticuffs, resulting in heavy damage to the 120-year-old Nuwara Eliya Golf Club premises, where the meeting was held.

A Club House security officer had also been reportedly bitten by one of the PA members, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The matter has been reported to the Nuwara Eliya police which had started investigations into the incident.Meanwhile, the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club has decided to claim for damage from the PA, from which 122 members had attended the meeting.
