UPFA will win 11 seats in Kurunegala
Land Development, Human Settlement and Ranaviru Welfare Minister
Johnston Fernando said the UPFA Government would secure 11 seats from
Kurunegala district at the upcoming General Election.
"In view the overwhelming public support, I am confident the
Government would be able to gain a two thirds majority at the
forthcoming General Election. We would definitely get the two thirds
majority in Kurunegala district as well," the Minister told the Sunday
Observer.
He said at present the UNP has faced a severe set-back and they are
unable to find even enough people to conduct their election campaign.
Their existing vote base will be further reduced by another half at this
General Election.
"In order to cover up his political bankruptcy, the UNP Leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe has called upon his supporters in Kurunegala to come to
streets and demonstrate that Minister Indika Bandaranaika and I had lost
our parliamentary representation. Unfortunately not even a single person
from Kurunegala joined the protest campaign. I have challenged the UNP
Leadership to organise any such protest against us if possible. There
were not even 500 people at the UNP election rally held at Kurunegala on
Friday under the patronage of Ranil Wickremesinghe," the Minister said.
First Prime Minister D.S.Senanayake will go down in history as the
founder of the UNP while Wickremesinghe as the Leader who destroyed the
party, he said.
Commenting on the undated resignation letters obtained by the UNP
from its candidates, Minister Fernando said this shows the political
bankruptcy of the Opposition Leader. This means the UNP candidates are
not ready to accept his leadership. He has forced his candidates to sign
this undated resignation letter because he knows another group of UNP
MPs will certainly join the Government after the General Election, the
Minister added. |
