The East in Government fold - Ameer Ali

The UPFA victory in the coming general election is crystal clear, Disaster Relief Services Minister and Batticaloa district UPFA Chief candidate M.S.S. Ameer Ali said during an exclusive interview with Sunday Observer.

He said that the people themselves have realised that nothing tangible could be achieved by casting their valuable votes to the Opposition.

Q: Will the Government win at the General Election?

A: Definitely the Government will win at the General election. Nobody can stop Government's victory. It is an assured one.

People are intelligent enough to make correct decisions. Whatever the attempts made by the Opposition they can't win. The UPFA has a strong vote base in the country including the North and the East.

No one can penetrate the vote base of the Government.

The masses have kept implicit faith in the Government as evidenced at the last Presidential Election.

No doubt the people will pay back their gratitude by casting their valuable votes to the Government. They believe that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only leader who can rebuild the country while treating every citizen equally.

Without any racial, caste or religious differences the people rally round the Government.

Q: What is the present political situation in the Batticaloa District?

A: A large number of people in the district are supporting the UPFA. A massive number of Tamils and Muslims have joined UPFA after the Presidential election.

They are certain that the Government under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa will secure victory at the April general election. They have come to the conclusion that Opposition can make no contribution to the country at all.

Q: Are you confident that the Government will be able to secure a two thirds majority?

A: The President has achieved a land-slide victory securing more than 1.8 million votes at the last Presidential Election.

It shows that the Government is in strong position. No doubt that the Government will secure a two thirds majority at the general election.

Q: Will the Government go for constitutional reforms after the election?

A: The Government wants to reform the constitution. Moves are under way to give effect to such reforms during the tenure of next Parliament.

Q: Why do you want to support the Government?

A: One of the cherished goals of President Mahinda Rajapaksa is to eradicate poverty in the country. We support President Mahinda Rajapaksa as he is the only leader who can bring prosperity and development to the country.

This country will be developed to the level of those advanced countries in the West while protecting the dignity and identity of its people.

With the intention of improving the living standards in Batticaloa and Ampara districts the Government implemented mega development projects. Kinniya bridge is the gate way for the rapid development of Kinniya and its surrounding areas. The Pudawaikkattu bridge is another project launched by the Government.

The Oluvil harbour will be the main employment generating means to the unemployed youth in the Eastern Province, Minister Ali added.
