Azwer denounces resignation letters
Letters of resignation obtained by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe
have no validity at all, said Presidential Advisor and UPFA National
List candidate A.H.M. Azwer addressing an election meeting at Dharga
Town.
He said that when a leader obtains undated letters of resignation
from his candidates, what does it mean? It means that he has no
confidence in his candidates.
He has no confidence in his own candidates how can he and what is the
moral right he has got to ask the voters to vote for such candidates.
When his late uncle J.R. Jayewardene obtained such undated letters
from his then candidates, it is on record to say that Sam Wijesinghe,
the Secretary General of Parliament, an expert on Parliamentary practice
and procedure, told Jayewardene that he would not accept those letters
when submitted.
Jayewardene had then told Wijesinghe, if that was the position he
would find an alternative method.
The letters of resignation obtained by Ranil Wickremesinghe are not
worth twopence, my former colleague should give a bit of advice to his
colleagues to run this race like Cotton Hall and not run with its legs
in chains, although the large majority of them would not get to the
victory post.
On the contrary President Mahinda Rajapaksa has full confidence in
his candidates, therefore he has not resorted to such meandering
political jigsaws, Azwer added.
