UPFA-CWC alliance win five seats

At the 2004 general election, the UPFA won only two seats in Nuwara Eliya but the UPFA-CWC alliance won five seats at Thursday's election, proving beyond any doubt that a large majority of the plantation community is with the CWC, party leader Minister Arumugan Thondaman told the Sunday Observer.

Beside himself, V. Radhakrishnan, a former PC member and P. Rajadurai who is new to politics were second and third in the district and this is a clear indication of the plantation people's unwavering support to the UPFA-CWC alliance and the policies of President Mahinda Rajapaksa towards the welfare of the community, he said.

The landslide victory of the UPFA at the election is a 'go-ahead' for the Mahinda Chintana and the 10-year National Action Plan (NAP) for the economic and social uplift of the plantation community.

The CWC has already discussed with President Rajapaksa the continued implementation process of the Rs. 106 billion NAP and would start work on it as soon as possible, Thondaman said.
